How Companies are Improving the Employee Experience

In today’s evolving market, it takes more than compensation to attract and retain the talent you need. Aon recently conducted its Employee Experience Survey to find out what’s top of mind. Here’s a snapshot of what we found.

Key Takeaways

  1. With shifting workforce priorities and a constantly evolving workplace, employees across regions and industries now care more about the bigger picture.
  2. The majority of employers are offering programs and amenities to support physical health and wellness.
  3. Employees are increasingly seeking recognition for their work, as well as opportunities to make a meaningful impact on society.

In today’s evolving market, it takes more than compensation to attract and retain the talent you need. With shifting workforce priorities and a constantly evolving workplace, employees across regions and industries now care more about the bigger picture. It becomes a question of not how can, but how does an employer enrich their lives?

As part of the Radford Market Practice Studies, Aon recently conducted its Employee Experience Survey, which includes responses from 1,059 global HR professionals representing their organization’s practices across sectors. Findings reinforced the immense increase in focus for these five areas…

Wellness

Whether full-time or hybrid, flexible work is here to stay. Ninety-two percent of organizations are currently offering a formal or informal flexible workforce program that supports virtual work. Additionally, 83 percent of employers have programs and amenities to support physical health and wellness, with every respondent in the United States providing this benefit.

The main challenge organizations face in attracting, retaining and inspiring the workforce of the future is articulating their human capital strategy with the needs and preferences of their talent. At a tactical level, organizations are refocusing their wellness programs to meet individual needs in the context of an evolving work model that breaks down spatial, temporal and career barriers.”

Learning and development

Nearly three-quarters of organizations offer internal learning and development programs, compared to 57 percent for external programs. The most popular types of internal training include subject specific training followed by career planning tools. Leadership programs were offered by around two thirds of respondents with mentoring, job rotation and special projects being offered by less than half of respondents globally.

Perquisites

While sixty-three percent of companies still offer certain defined perquisites to most or all employees, specific in-office perks, like free meals have declined year-over-year likely due to continued remote work.

Before the pandemic, keeping up with competitors by creating an all-enveloping workplace with generous on-site perquisites was all the rage. In today’s new hybrid environment, the employee experience goes well beyond the physical space and now must focus more comprehensively on what matters to your employees to engage and retain them.”
